“The time has come…”

This morning as read from the first chapter of Mark I sensed the Lord showing me the structure of of the first chapter of Mark and reminds me of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Jesus said “The time has come…The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” This explicitly states how now is the time for salvation, Jesus the one, true, and Only Savior finally came to earth and desires a relationship with me – us. He wants us to turn from us, our selfish ways, to Him, not just to believe in Him, but to follow Him. The very next verse Jesus asks Simon and Andrew to “Come, follow me….and I will make you fishers of men.” And immediately He begins to teach these followers what it means to have a relationship with Him…relating to others in a helpful way, empowered by the Spirit, enjoying time in peoples homes, meetings needs as they occured, and a deep relationship with the Lord through prayer. I find this very freeing, that life with Jesus is more about living a life built from His word and Spirit, in the everyday life so others can see what God is doing so they to can be a follower who can help others be followers of Jesus, than living a program built on rules. Praise God, we can be a participant with others helping along the way instead of just being a spectator trying to be a Christian on our own!
