A Dream – Leaders and Followers

Just after 2 AM this morning I woke up having this dream. I went back and laid down but my spirit was not content. I had to write down the dream. Now that it is just after 3:30 AM I am posting the dream. It is for the body of Christ, to the glory of God.
________________________________________________________________

In a small group of an “institutional” church, perhaps a “discipleship class” discussion group, mention was made of the importance of leaders and followers. Somehow I was asked to share my thoughts on the subject. I stood and said:

“Brothers and sisters, thank you for allowing me to share. Before I begin let me remind you that a few years ago I retired from the U.S. Army and am quite aware of the concept of leaders and followers. But over the past few years I have learned something different than our current knowledge of leaders and followers.”

At this point I can hear music in the background and asked if it could be turned down. This appeared to be “meditative” music. The “pastor” somewhat distracted went and turned it down.

“As a believer of Jesus Christ I am also a follower. I follow Him. As each person believes on the Lord Jesus Christ they are given the Holy Spirit who dwells within our spirit. This spirit is within us, this body and soul by which we live by. It is like the Old Testament temple. Our body is like the temple, our soul the holy of holies, the ark our spirit and within the ark is the Lord. We are the temple of the Lord. We are each called to hear the Lord by our spirits and follow Him just as the author of Hebrews says. We do so by our conscience and intuition, loving one another by His strength and power.”

Somehow at this point I am no longer sharing with a small group but it has become a huge number of people, such as what would be found in a large “church” building, all quietly listening.

“Jesus said ‘do not call anyone your Father or anyone your Leader for there is only one Father and one Leader.’ We are each called to hear Him and follow Him! We are no longer called to hear and follow this earthly body and soul but the Spirit who dwells in us, the Spirit of Christ, who is our life! Paul said ‘it is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me. I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself up for me, for you.’

“Each of us have been given gifts. These gifts are from the Spirit, not us. In fact He has given Himself for the building up of the body. He has given persons, each one of us, our personalities through which the Spirit might express Himself.

“What are we doing here? This is a show! This was not normal in the body of Christ. From time-to-time those with an apostolic function would share the heart of God to His people but that was not the norm. The norm was God’s people living by His life with one another in each others homes, from house to house, and in the marketplace.

“God’s people were not led by only a certain few by a special people, in a special place, at a special time. Each member as they followed Jesus led the body of Christ. As each member heard and followed Jesus, living by His life, Christ was leading His body! But this (looking at all the quiet people staring at the stage) this has caused God’s people, has caused the life of God to become enslaved and are in bondage!”

The scene seems to end. At this point a decision must be made by God’s people. Those who have assumed God’s leadership must decide what to do based on what was heard.

This for some reason appears to be a scene like that of Stephen before the Sanhedrin. Will God’s people listen to the Spirit within them and follow Him or their emotions.

Thanks for sharing John, some may think I am strange but once you wrote 3:30, (seems that number 3, 33, 333 resonates something with me to pay attention) I know the Holy Spirit spoke to me in more ways than one in this. I appreciate your love for The Lord and sharing that love with all of us. Bless you brother.

Woot! John, great expression here, thanks for sharing. The believers have taken in the view of a leader and follower through the eyes of the world. The saints often seem as if they really don’t know if they are a leader or a follower. I consider the divisions we apply to the Spirituals, which are His Spirit Expressions, to have a great deal to do with this mixed-up comprehension. The Leader lives in us. The Follower lives in us. In a gathering, which is exactly what Paul was addressing, He leads us and follows Father. How does He do this? In us and through through us, IN the gathering of the body, as Paul describes the differing expressions that flow forth. Notice how He expresses Himself in the gathering. One speaks, another adds to that initial expression and on and on, leaders and followers, followers and leaders, it is all Him.
